Tension Headache Treatment in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg with Dry Needling & Physiotherapy
Individual support for tension-related headaches – practical and without time pressure.
Tension headaches: when the pressure just won't lift
That dull pressing feeling behind the forehead. The band that seems to tighten around the head. The neck that gradually stiffens and eventually pulls upwards. Tension headaches (Spannungskopfschmerzen / jännityspäänsärky / spanningshoofdpijn) rarely arrive suddenly – they build slowly, and tend to show up most reliably during stressful stretches, after long days in front of a screen, or when sleep and recovery have been in short supply.
At my practice I help you make sense of your tension headaches and understand possible contributing factors – not just in the neck, but in the interplay of your body, daily life and overall load.
Please seek medical assessment if you experience a sudden, severe headache, neurological symptoms (visual disturbances, speech problems, weakness), fever, neck stiffness, following an accident, or if the pattern of your headaches changes noticeably.
How tension headaches can present
Perhaps you recognise this:
- A dull, pressing pain – often felt on both sides
- Pressure at the forehead, temples or back of the head
- Complaints after prolonged sitting or screen work
- Neck and shoulder tension that "pulls upwards"
- Headache alongside jaw tension or teeth clenching
- Sensitivity to noise or stress
- The question: does this come from the cervical spine? Is it something serious?
How I can help
I do not just look "at the head", but at possible connections: neck and shoulder girdle, thoracic spine, jaw, breathing, stress patterns, sleep habits and daily routines. The starting point is always a thorough headache profile – frequency, triggers, daily pattern, what helps, what worsens.
The assessment covers the cervical spine, thoracic spine, shoulder girdle and jaw-related factors where relevant. Depending on the findings, I can support with manual techniques to regulate tension and improve mobility. Dry Needling is a possible option for trigger points in the neck-shoulder area – always individually considered. Targeted exercises and concrete daily life strategies complete the picture: micro-breaks, breathing prompts, workstation setup, jaw relief.
My goal is for you to better understand your triggers and leave with practical, realistic steps that can make a difference.

Frequently asked questions
Is it migraine or tension headache?
They can seem similar but are not the same. I can collect indicators during the assessment and help classify your pattern. If medical assessment would be useful, I will say so.
Can neck tension trigger tension headaches?
Muscle tension, posture and stress can certainly play a role. I can help assess these factors and work out appropriate steps.
Does dry needling help with tension headaches?
It can support certain trigger points in the neck-shoulder area, but is not always necessary – and only used when it suits your findings and you want it.
How many appointments are typical?
This is individual. Some people benefit from a few sessions plus a good exercise and daily life plan, others need a bit more follow-up. I discuss this openly after the assessment.
What can I do myself in daily life?
Small, regular adjustments often help: micro-breaks, thoracic spine movement, neck and shoulder blade exercises, sleep hygiene. I will give you concrete, realistic steps to take.
Should I take pain medication?
I do not give medication advice. If you are unsure or frequently rely on medication, medical assessment may be appropriate. I can help structure non-medication approaches.
