Running Injuries in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg: Dry Needling & Physiotherapy
Individual support for ITB, Achilles tendon and hip complaints – private, straightforward and without time pressure.
Running injuries: when your body stops cooperating
Running is simple – until it suddenly isn't. A pulling sensation on the outside of the knee that kicks in after a few kilometres. Morning stiffness in the Achilles tendon that loosens up but never fully disappears. Hip complaints that emerge after a jump in training load. Running injuries / juoksuvaivat / hardloopklachten – whatever you call them, they slow you down, frustrate you, and leave you wondering whether to push through or stop.
At my practice in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg, I help you make sense of your complaints, understand the contributing factors and develop a realistic plan for training and daily life – without rigid prohibitions.
With severe or sudden pain, obvious swelling, numbness, fever or after an accident, please seek medical assessment.
How running injuries often show up
- A pulling or stabbing sensation that only appears during running – but barely noticeable in daily life
- Complaints from a certain distance or at a particular pace or effort
- The feeling of never properly warming up, no matter how long you jog it out
- Frustration because training load cannot be increased
- The question: take a break – or push through?
ITB and outer knee (runner's knee)
Typical complaints on the outer side of the knee or thigh that tend to worsen on longer runs, downhill or after increases in training load. I look at possible contributing factors such as load management, movement patterns and muscle tension.
Achilles tendon, heel and calf
Morning stiffness, start-up pain or load-related discomfort in the Achilles tendon, heel attachment or calf – I can help put this in context and gradually build load capacity in a way that is individual to you.
Hip, groin and buttocks
Hip or buttock complaints during running can have many causes – from overload reactions to compensation patterns. I can help clarify the connections: mobility, strength, running economy, load management.
How I can help
It matters to me not just to treat where it hurts, but to understand your issue in context. What exactly occurs when? What training load has there been recently? What daily life factors are involved?
After the anamnesis and a functional movement check – mobility, stability, muscle activation, symmetry – I develop an individual plan with you. Depending on the findings this can include manual techniques, Dry Needling for muscular trigger points (optional, only when it fits), and an active exercise and progression plan. A pragmatic return-to-run approach – how to adapt, reduce or gradually rebuild training – is always part of the picture.
I work transparently: what I do, why I do it, and what you can contribute yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to stop running?
Not necessarily. Depending on the complaint pattern, it may make sense to reduce, vary or temporarily restructure load. I help you make that decision individually – without blanket prohibitions.
How many appointments are typical?
Very much depends on the issue. Some problems benefit from a few sessions plus a self-directed exercise plan, others need a bit more support. I discuss this openly after the assessment.
Is dry needling always necessary?
No. It is an option and only used when it suits your findings and you want it. It can support recovery – but does not replace active work on load management and exercises.
What should I bring to the appointment?
If available: previous examination results, relevant medical reports, your training history (app or notes) and ideally your running shoes. Comfortable clothing is ideal.
Do you treat people with just a mild pulling sensation – not severe pain?
Yes. With early-stage complaints in particular, it can be very useful to look early and in a structured way at what can be improved – before something becomes established.
Do health insurers cover the costs?
This is generally a private service. More details here: Billing
